I might be inclined to take a little of that at what I consider to be amazing value. Let’s consider the facts…
Everyone in the universe expects the Pats to win that division. They nearly always do. They added Mayo to an ageing linebacker corps which will definitely help their cause, but against that their secondary has been devastated in free agency and they have two new corners who have to learn the system. Belichik is the master of creating flexibility in his defense and no two guys will shoulder the responsibility for opposing WRs week in and week out but you still need a nucleus. The departure of Samuel and Gay severely dents that.
Buffalo suffered heavily through injuries last season and had 12 guys on injured reserve at one time, including their first round draft pick who never saw a minute of game time. He is a year older and will be fit and firing this season to add to a team that has added a high quality wide-out to compliment Lee Evans. Quarterback Trent Edwards was raw last season but he will be all the better for the year and his 4 starts have him prepared for the change of pace he experienced when leaving the college scene. The Buffalo defense plays very tough, and even though they trailed in sacks last season the overall defensive numbers were very competitive. They play their hearts out every week and ended last season on a pretty high note.
With the Pats likely to drop off even slightly from last season’s heroics, and with the Bills making obvious progress year on year I give them a fluker’s chance to beat the Pats heads up, and should they be able to do that the division race could well be a lot closer than many expect. Nobody can expect Miami to make a serious run at it off the back of a 1-15 season and the Jets have not adequately addressed their quarterback issues for mine and will struggle, despite the addition of Faneca to their offensive line.
