After taking 5 minutes to load that crap site for AFL, I saw the Did You Know? factoid.
Since 1980 St Kilda has managed just 10 wins from 33 clashes with Essendon, with former Bombers coach Kevin Sheedy winning 33 of the 41 clashes during his tenure.
Just a throw of the dice? Or we have more here?

Why has St Kilda lost 23 matches out 33? The reasoning?

The saints were one of the worst teams through that period that is why… they have had some good years recently, but the Bombers were one of the teams of the 90’s as well.

AFL web site is crap, way to much flash.
Couldn’t help myself, had to graph it but I’ve only got numbers back to 98.
St. Kilda vs. Essendon since 1998.
Obviously St. Kilda used to be really bad but whether they have improved is probably debatable. Like Brades said, it’s probably more like Essendon have gone backwards (given they won a premiership in 2000), rather than St. Kilda going forwards.

There is absolutely no value in records past maybe 5 years. Most of the current players were still playing in the under 19’s prior to that.
Historically, Essendon was a perennially good side and St. Kilda was a bottom half side for most of that period. Some teams have overwhelmingly good records over other sides but nearly every side has an overwhelmingly good record over St Kilda. They have a history of being completely shit (not much has changed this year).
You may care to check Essendon’s record over Collingwood over a 10 year period. If you ignore the past year or so, Essendon’s record over Collingwood was spectacular including a period where they won 10 out of 11.
Anyway, records count for nothing going forward and anyone that says different is a tool (here’s your chance to prove it, Brades). But there is a logical explanation for that dominance and it stems from St Kilda’s propensity to self-destruct.
