I just played expensive game. It was a high buy in. I got pocket tens, raised 4X BB, got put all in by KK (which I didn’t know then) but thinking about a good old frinds favourite hand I called it, and lost in the second hand of the game.

Doh!

How expensive?

You have to think 10,10 is the best hand preflop. How much more did you have to call for the all-in?

I have to disagree with admin on this one. It’s the second hand and you are being put all in preflop. You have to put your opponent on ATLEAST AK suited. If your opponent had AK suited, you were 53/45. If you shared a suited card with your opponent, you jumped to a 54/45 advantage. If you put your opponent on just plain old AK, you were 56/42 to win. The odds held pretty close for AQ as well.

Looking at those odds should show the fact the a mid pocket pair isn’t that great vs a low top tier hand. If you like risking your stack (tourny or ring) on basically a coin flip, then you will continue to run into big losses. With those losses will come the big win, but the odds show a basic break even outcome.

But he is favored in the hand…at a small bit.

What I want to know is, how much TJ’s bet was and how much more did he have to call for the all-in. I think that will help sort out a few issues.

No, admin, he was only favored if the reraiser had AK (suited or off suit). I didn’t figure I needed to run KK vs 1010. It’s pretty obvious the disadvantage he’s up against.

For those that are wondering. KK vs 1010 is 80/18 if they share one suit. It’s 80/19 if they share no suits preflop.

Now, before I type this, I respect the Jester and his playing skills. However, this was probably one of the biggest donk moves the Jester made. IT’S THE SECOND HAND. No one has a rep, either from prior experience or current game. I can say I’ve gone all in 2 twice in the first 10 hands in the last 3 years. One was after the flop and once was the almost the same situtation, only I put myself all in with JJ against KK. I got the EXACT same talk from a well respected player (both in my opinion as well as other people.)

Jester, take from this game the example you need to take. WHY RISK YOUR WHOLE TOURNAMENT IN THE SECOND HAND?
