The Emerging Star That Is Steve Hall

He goes by many names; The Poker Reverend, The Subway Slammer, Minnesota Maniac, Hall and Gloats, the list goes on and on. Steve Hall picked up the game of poker a few months ago, but in that short time has propelled himself into third place in the coveted, Twitter Poker Tour. Does he have lasting power? Where did he come from? We sit down to learn more from this poker extraordinaire.

You are new to the game. What advice can you give to a beginning player trying out an online site? What advice/steps can you give a beginner trying to maintain and build a bankroll?
What advice can I give? Not a ton I suppose. I’m pretty picky about the sites I play on and usually only play on Full Tilt. Just choose a site that feel comfortable to you, play around with the free chips to see if you can understand that particular site’s controls.

Start small. Don’t jump into a game that is over your head, there are lots of people that are better than you are.

I am just starting to build my bank roll, I play .5/.10 right now and I think that is right where I need to be at this point.

What types of reads/patterns do you notice with online players?
Online it is harder to read people. You have to watch betting patterns. Once you get a feel for how everyone at your table plays and bets then you can start playing a lot more pots, but until then I usually stick to premium hands. FOLD FOLD FOLD. That is what I have to keep telling myself, especially when playing low limits. It doesn’t seem like a lot until you’re all of a sudden in a $10 pot and your bankroll is $15.

Are you mostly a No-Limit/Limit player or do you play other games?
I only play No-Limit. I’m not smart enough for the other games. I actually think it works for me that I only play one game. I don’t think I’d be as good as I am at NL if I played all of those other ones.

What is your biggest poker pet peeve?
I HATE the min bet. It drives me nuts. What is the point of raising the min? There isn’t one.

What will you do if you take the TPT Crown?
I will laugh all the way to the bank. Actually, I will be shocked if I win. There are a lot of great poker players in the TPT. I don’t know how I got into the top 3. I just hope my luck holds up the entire season.

- Sorry if my answers seem all over the place. My brain works like that sometimes.
