Middle Stages of a SnG – Player Type Recognition

The middle stages of a sit and go poker tournament is where you really have an opportunity to let your creativity shine. By now, a few players may have busted out, which means you may be up against one or two large stacks and a bunch of average stacks. Don’t be too afraid of those larger stacks. Although they may have doubled up through genuinely clever play, a lot of times, players willing to gamble so early in a Texas Hold em tournament are prone to mistakes. It is often a good strategy to try to only get involved in pots with these players when you have a strong hand and trap them when they try to bully you.

As far as the other players go, by this stage of the sit and go you should have a good idea of how people play. While you can expect players to open up more as the tournament reaches this stage, you should also have a basic understanding of which players are tighter than others, which ones are only going to play very strong hands, which ones can be bullied, and which ones will play back at you every time. Use this information to your advantage.
