Tournament Poker Games Tips

Tournament poker is different from usual games. Strategies are different and hands are not regarded the same way.

In poker tournaments, the poker stakes continuously grow and this determinates the players to adjust the way they play constantly. If they loose all chips, they have to leave the game. Throughout a tournament, some tables are eliminated, and the remaining players have to move around between tables. Many times, some players are already all-in before they even get the first card. Furthermore, the method of distribution of prizes makes the objective of a player to be different from the outcome of a regular game. Continue Reading »

Becoming a Winning Texas Holdem Player

Chris Moneymaker. Greg Raymer. Joe Hachem. These are the names of world poker champions. They are also the names of players who have played Texas hold’em poker games online extensively, which may well have contributed to their championship victories. Playing texas holdem poker isn’t necessarily a path to riches and glory, but it can be. Here are four valuable tips to get you started on that path.

Step 1. Play Strong Starting Hands
While guys on television can be frequently seen playing hands like 8 4 off suit and J6, you will do much better to fold these types of hands and wait for strong hands like pairs and big cards. Trying to play a lot of hands only leads to many situations in which you end up with the second best hand, which can cost you a lot of money. Play good hands and play them strongly. Eventually you will also learn how to play deceptive in holdem.

Step 2. Play Position
You should open up your range of starting hands the later you act in the hand. This way, you will get to see what others do before you act, giving you crucial information that they do not have about you. If a player checks, you will know he is at least representing weakness. You have the opportunity to test him with a bet or to see if the next card will improve your hand. If a player bets and you have a big hand, you will know you can reel him in for more chips. If you don’t, you can get away easily or raise to represent an even stronger hand.

Step 3. Collect Data
When you play online, everything is recorded. You have the opportunity to review the hand histories after the game and make notes on your opponents during the game. This information can be critical in later sessions.

Step 4. Practice Game Selection
Live casinos have limited choices. However, online you’ll have many tables on which you can play. Take your time and watch the games to see which tables suit your style of play, as well as which tables have stronger players you might want to avoid.

Bankroll - The Most Mentioned, Least Applied Poker Tool

Everyone talks bankroll (BR), interpreting it to mean that you have one when you mention your BR. How many players really have a bankroll, one that suits their playing needs? The consideration for the size of your bankroll depends on the limit of game you are playing, and if you are only using your bankroll for poker purposes or if you are planning to pay your living expenses from your bankroll also.

One of the best ways to increase your poker bankroll is playing online poker and taking advantage of the download and sign up bonuses where you are going to receive a dynamic, bankroll building depositor’s bonus, and continue to receive bonuses as you play. Titan Poker gives you $50 free and a huge deposit bonus when you come in as a new player. The bonuses at Titan don’t stop there and each one increases your bankroll without you putting a lot of money into it from your own savings.

You will need to figure out exactly what limit you can play comfortably, with your starting bankroll, and adapt to a strict discipline in following and staying within your guidelines. You should never jump up a limit or two, even if you have had a good run, until you know you are completely ready to make the move and your bankroll can handle the downside of variance. Many people feel that a few days of winning should let them take a shot at a higher limit. While playing a higher limit with a win from a previous session is not a bad thing, it should only be exactly that, a onetime shot with your winnings. And if you win in that session, put it in your bankroll and step back down to your regular limit. Don’t move up in limits until you know you can fade the heat and don’t be afraid to move back down if it isn’t going well.

Another way to continue to build your bankroll is playing at Full Tilt Rakeback. With Full Tilt Rake back calculator you can calculate your savings and know how much money you will get back every month. Since you are playing poker and giving up part of your hard earned dollars to each pot in rake, be sure to take advantage of receiving rakeback and defray the costs.

You may be concerned because you own a Mac and want to play internet poker but everything appears to be geared towards a Windows Operating PC. Mac Poker is available and you don’t have to spend a chunk of your poker bankroll to utilize it.

Once you have taken all the steps to build your bankroll and set up your goal and game plan, keep in mind that starting in limit, rather than no limit, may be the best move for you. Winning the first few pots in limit will keep you in the game and able to win more pots vs. playing no limit and losing all of your buy-in, plus your win, in one hand because of a mistake by you or a lucky draw from an opponent.

If you manage yourself, as well as your bankroll, coupled with deposit bonuses and rakeback, you should be able to build your bankroll into a nice sum that will allow you to move up in limits in a timely manner. And remember, there’s always a game tomorrow, you have plenty of time to work on your game and your bankroll. Keep your focus on your game, not someone else’s.

Poker Player Jeopardizes Entire Bankroll on One Event

AUSTIN, TX, March 12, 2009 - Degenerate female poker player and former Argentinian pop star, Panndyra, the Poker Goddess, is hosting the Twitter Poker Tour event tonight at PokerStars. She has added a sum of $2,522 (ZWD) to the prize pool in the hopes of hooking up with one of the event organizers. The Poker Goddess runs several online blogs, which she will not name for fear of getting fired.

Speaking from her palatial digs near Matthew McConnaughey’s RV,

I’m looking forward to playing with the talented players on the TPT and beating them senseless…again.

I’ve set myself up as the bounty but I fully expect to win it all back. I just have that much confidence in myself and besides $2,522 Zimbabwean Dollars is a lot of money these days. I need it back.

Panndyra hopes that there are at least 40 players in the #TPT event this evening and is willing to do just about anything to ensure that there are. And yes, she means just about anything. Her antidepressants take away all her inhibitions.

So, if you’re looking for a good time, play in the #TPT tonight and every week. You’ll find hot chicks who play great poker and who aren’t afraid to show it.

Oh yeah and visit http://www.twitterpokertour.com for your password and sign in information. It’s well worth the minimal effort you’ll expend doing that.

PokerPlasm Ceases Print Version Operations

AUSTIN, TX, March 3, 2009 - PokerPlasm, Inc. announced today that all operations of print materials will cease indefinitely. The U.S.-based PokerPlasm Magazine and the European-based PokerPlasm Europa offices were immediately notified of the plan and were given two weeks notice to close the doors.

“In these tough economic times,” stated Mr. Trevor Holewinski, Chief Executive Officer of PokerPlasm, Inc., “with higher transportation costs, dwindling advertisement sales, and a declining U.S readership, we had to make a cost analysis move. But let me be clear, PokerPlasm.com will still be functional and provide readers with the same high quality articles, interviews, and tips you have come to expect.”

The statement came as a shock to the poker community, especially after Mr. Holewinski’s $4.85 million purchase of a 5,000 square foot beachfront home in the Cayman Islands.

The future of PokerPlasm sponsored poker tournaments, like the Shut The Jester Up Series, the PokerPlasm Olympics, and the PokerPlasm Heads-Up Tourney were not mentioned in the statement, but most analysts feel they could be in jeopardy.

Both magazines were printed monthly since October 2005. The company is privately held so no financial statements have been made public.

9 Poker Concepts To Watch For in 2009

As we rush into 2009, a lot of good ideas and concepts are on the board! We can only hope that all of them continue to grow. So…the following is our list of what to look for in 2009.

  1. The Twitter Poker Tour! It is becoming the tour de force of the online poker realm and is expanding membership weekly.
  2. The growth of Bad Beat Clothing. The major sponsor of the TPT. They give away a custom (and badass) t-shirt each week!
  3. The return of the PokerPlasm Tourney League. A points based league that plays a variety of poker games.
  4. Reading this train wreck. Over/under in months on when this fool goes to prison?
  5. Keeping up to date on one of my favorite sites, Complete Poker Rules. A great resource for articles and tips! A site that can only get better with time.
  6. Watching the growth of the 72suited bankroll and of course his detailed photos.
  7. Eyeing the return of Bizarro Grundy. Then the planets are aligned.
  8. Reading up on all the new poker-related interviews at Tourney Blog. Kudos to the lightning round!
  9. Do we see more poker players utilizing twitter? We can only hope, its a great tool, that unites niche bloggers.

Finally, we would like to know what types of articles you would like to read more of. We have provided four answers, but you can write your own in as well!
